ARAPAHOE -- Gerald Dean Utterback, 59, died Saturday (Sept. 18, 2004) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born Nov. 12, 1944, to J. Thomas and Gladys (Reitz) Utterback in Arapahoe. He grew up on a farm south of Arapahoe and attended rural school. He graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1963. After school he farmed with his family.

He married Teri Hanna and the couple later divorced.

On Dec. 9, 1978, he married Joyce E. McNally in Arapahoe. He worked for many years with road construction crews. In 1980, he started working for Paulsen Inc., as a heavy equipment operator which would last for over 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Terri Utterback; infant brother, Wayne; and sister, Darlene Utterback.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce of Arapahoe; three sons, Gerald D. Jr., and wife, Tina Utterback of Trenton, Terry and wife, Kim McNally of Eustis and Randy and wife, Linda McNally of David City; four daughters, Brenda and husband, Mike Paulsen of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jennie and husband, Mike Carey of Colorado Springs, Colo., Tina and husband, Mike Hanson of Texarkana, Texas and Rhonda and husband, Sean Small of Omaha; two brothers, Paul Utterback of Arapahoe and James and wife, Marty Utterback of Arapahoe; three sisters, Roberta and husband, Glen Hinton of Arapahoe, Sara Mae and husband, Charles Walker of McCook and Erma Lee and husband, Lloyd Pfeiffer of Arapahoe; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services are Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at First United Methodist Church of Arapahoe with Terry McCorkle officiating. Interment will be in Arapahoe Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m., and Tuesday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe.

Memorials may be given to the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
