YORK -- The McCook Bison scored 21 points in the fourth quarter and pulled away from the York Dukes for a 34-0 victory Friday night at York.

The Bison (2-0), ranked No. 1 in Class B, extended its winning streak to 28 consecutive games and have won 36 out of their last 39.

York, ranked No. 9 in Class by the Omaha and Lincoln papers, dropped to 1-1.

McCook defeated York 16-13 in overtime in the regular season last year and 9-0 in the playoffs.

McCook posted its second straight straight 34-0 win to start the season. The Bison blanked Scottsbluff last week at home.

"Our adjustments were pretty simple tonight," said McCook football coach Jeff Gross during his postgame radio interview. "We told the kids to put a smile on their faces ... relax and have some fun.

"In the second half, we ran our game plan and went back to our base stuff on offense. Defensively, we didn't give them a dime rushing the ball. The kids came alive in the third quarter and we put them away in the fourth quarter."

McCook took the opening kickoff and drove down inside York's 20-yard line, but the Bison fumbled and the Dukes recovered.

However, the Dukes returned the favor and fumbled the ball to McCook at the 9-yard line.

Two plays later with 6:53 left in the first quarter, Beam punched the ball in the end zone from 6 yards out.

Josh Cherry kicked the extra point.

York's defense stuffed McCook in the second quarter, limiting the Bison to one first down.

With 3:25 left in the third quarter, McCook's junior tailback Brendan Liess took a pitch from Tony Purvis and scored from 10 yards out. McCook missed the extra point. Liess ran for 104 yards.

Senior fullback Alex Beam, who rushed for 108 yards, added his second TD on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter.

McCook quarterback Tony Purvis passed to tight end Jared Muehlenkamp in the back of the end zone for the 2-point conversion.

Purvis put the Dukes away with a 65-yard scamper on an option keeper with 5 minutes left.

Backup quarterback Joel Arterburn added a 36-yard TD run on the last play of the game. The extra point was not attempted.

The Bison rolled up 353 yards rushing and added another 56 passing. McCook's defense limited York to 42 yards rushing. The Dukes passed for 154 yards.
