McCook softball team beats Hastings at home
McCOOK -- The McCook Bison softball team beat the Hastings Tigers 10-2 at the Jaycee Complex Tuesday night.
The McCook JV also won. They took a 12-0 decision in four innings.
Stephanie Douglas allowed one hit in six innings, striking out four and walking one. She gave up two runs, one of them unearned. Taryn Placzek pitched the last inning for the save.
Hastings began the scoring in the top of the first, capitalizing on two McCook errors.
McCook came back in the bottom of the second with two runs. Following a Kayla Wilson walk, with Jessica Einsphar pinch running, Jillian Bryant singled.
Bryant was then forced out on a Kori Collins ground ball. Collins then stole second, putting runners at second and third. Andrea Soden singled in Einsphar and Lindsay Lawson bunted in Collins to take 2-1 lead.
McCook scored three more in the third. Austin Wilson singled and stole second and advanced to third on a Kim Serbousek ground out to short.
Michelle McKenna singled in Wilson and was ran for by Kala Smalley, who stole second.
Jillian Bryant singled Smalley in and stole second. Collins then singled in Bryant for the third run of the inning.
McCook added four more in the fifth when a Serbousek walk was followed by base hits from McKenna, Kayla Wilson and Jillian Bryant.
Marissa Wallace knocked in two runs with a double.
After a Hastings run in the top of the sixth, Michelle McKenna reached on a walk. Kayla Wilson drove her in with a two out double.
"The girls did a good job of adjusting to the slow pitching the second time around in the order," said McCook coach Dale Lortz. "I was disappointed with the first inning on how we played defense. It is not our style to have two errors in one inning."
McCook will play in the North Platte Tournament on Saturday.

The McCook junior varsity softball team scored six runs in the bottom of the third and four in the fourth to beat Lexington in a run-rule game.
The Bison pounded out 16 hits, including three by Marissa Wallace and two each by Kirstie Hiatt, Cody Korus, Sarah Craw, Kala Smalley and Ashley Carfield. Wallace and Hiatt tripled.
Wallace pitched a two-hitter for the victory. She struck out eight and walked three.
