Julie Marie Westhusin and Michael Douglas Downing announce their engagement and upcoming wedding. Parents of the couple are Ronald and Shirley Westhusin of Plainville, Kan., Doug Downing and Diana Downing of Atwood. The bride-to-be is a 1996 graduate of Plainville High School. She earned her associate of arts degree from Barton County Community College. She is employed with USD 489 in Hays, Kan. The prospective bridegroom is the a 1993 graduate of Thomas More Prep-Marion in Hays and served four years in the Army. He is a Staff Sergeant with the Kansas National Guard. The couple is planning a Sept. 18, 2004, ceremony at Sacred Heart Church in Plainville.
