COLUMBUS -- The McCook softball team went 1-2 and finished fourth at the Clumbus tournament on Saturday.

After scoring three runs in the second inning, McCook held on to win against Grand Island 3-2.

Andrea Soden and Lindsey Lawson both singled in the third.

Natalie Brooks then knocked them in with a two-run triple.

Brooks scored on an Austin Wilson ground out.

Taryn Placzek pitched four innings for the Bison.

She picked up the win allowing five hits, striking out two and walking none. She did allow a run in the fifth.

Stephanie Douglas got the save, pitching the last three innings.

Douglas allowed one hit, struck out three and gave up an unearned run.

The Bison lost to Lincoln Southeast 9-0.

Douglas, Kirstie Hiatt and Marissa Wallace all pitched for McCook allowing 12 hits, striking out five and walking four against Lincoln Southeast.

Lincoln Southeast is ranked second in Class A.

Kori Collins, Austin Wilson and Kayla Wilson each had a hit for the Bison.

The Bison lost to Norfolk 3-1 in the third-place game.

Following a Wallace pinch-hit single and Collins reaching base on an error, Kim Serbousek singled to load the bases.

Michelle McKenna then hit a ground ball to third that was misplayed to give McCook a 1-0 lead.

The next two batters flew out to leave the bases loaded.

Norfolk then scored two in the second and one in the third to close out the scoring for either team.

Placzek pitched the first two innings and Douglas the last five for the Bison. They struck out two, gave up six hits and walked none.

"We did fine getting the one win and having a chance to get a second," said McCook coach Dale Lortz.

"These games will help us against Class B competition if we keep our heads up," he added.

McCook hosts Hastings Tuesday night at Jaycees Sports Complex.

The junior varsity play at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6:30 p.m.

Lortz said Hastings did not have enough players to play two JV and two varsity games.
