IMPERIAL -- Robert H. Egle, 87, died Monday (Aug. 30, 2004) at Chase County Hospital of Imperial.

He was born Dec. 18, 1916, to Henry and Hazel (Follett) Egle in Hitchcock County. He grew up in the Eden community and lived there until his retirement from farming when he and Esther moved to Enders in 1979. He graduated from Hamlet High School in 1934.

On June 20, 1937, he married Esther Marie Hahn in Hamlet. To this union four sons and a daughter were born. He bred and raced quarterhorses. He helped organize the Nebraska Quarterhorse Association in the early 1950's, serving as director for several years and as state president for two years. He also served as director for the Rocky Mountain Quarterhorse Association in Colorado for many years as well as the American Quarterhorse Association for 20 years. He was appointed as a lifetime honorary vice president of the association in 1980. In 1963 and 1964 he received the Breeder's Award for Anna Dial in the three-year-old mare and aged mare division.

He will also be remembered for many fishing trips he took with family and friends to Ogallala, Canada and various other places.

He served on many boards in the community include the Co-op, telephone company and the school boards.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther on Feb. 19, 2003; his parents; brother, Ralph; and infant brother, Loren.

Survivors include his sons, Loren Egle and wife, Pat of Stratton, Norman Egle and wife, Linda of Thedford, Dennis Egle and wife, Janet of Stratton, Duane Egle and wife, LeAnn of Gretna; his daughter, Linda Egle of Abilene, Texas; one brother, Virgil Egle and wife, Grace of North Platte; one sister, Elinor Beneda and husband, Glen of Lompoc, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren; many relatives and friends.

Services are Saturday, 11 a.m., at the Hamlet Union Church in Hamlet with the Rev. Kent Fink officiating. Inurnment will be in Eden Cemetery.
