COLBY, Kan. -- Lonnie C. "Arkie" Snodgrass, 78, died Wednesday (Sept. 1, 2004) at Prairie Senior Living Complex in Colby, Kan.

He was born June 10, 1925, to Viola (Pridemore) and Chester Snodgrass in Lincoln, Ark. He helped with the family fruit orchard.

After he graduated from high school, he joined the Army and participated in World War II in Germany.

After returning from war he traveled, eventually settling in Colby. He began working for Joe Calliham at the Morrison-Gregg-Mitchell grain elevator.

In 1950, he became acquainted with Hal McDougal Sr., and began his business partnership as manager at the grain elevator in Atwood. He remained at the Atwood elevator for 44 years, until his retirement in 1994. He also became co-owner of McDougal, Sager and Snodgrass Grain Incorporated.

On June 9, 1952, he married Barbara Sramek.

He was a member of the American Legion and the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bob and L.E.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; three daughters and one son, Paula Slater of Titusville, Fla., Roger Snodgrass and wife, Lynda, Karin Finley and husband, Kevin and Linda Glad and husband, Jeff, all of Atwood; two brothers, John and Roy; and five grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial is Monday, 10:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood with the Rev. Damian Richards officiating. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery with military rites provided by the American Legion Sam Hubbard Post No. 46 of Atwood.

A parish vigil and rosary will be Sunday, 7 p.m., at Williams Funeral Home.

Visitation is Sunday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m., at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Summer Recreation Baseball Field of the Walins County Health Center, both of Atwood.
