HOLBROOK -- Raymond D. Massey, 79, died Thursday (Aug. 5, 2004) at his shop in Holbrook.

He was born May 17, 1925, to Francis and Hazel (Baker) Massey on the family farm in Phillips County, Kan.

He attended school at Republican City.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Republican City where he worked with his father in the Massey Garage.

On July 25, 1948, he married Marguerite Stoelting of Orleans. They made homes in Republican City and in Orleans before moving to Holbrook in the early 1950s. After moving to Holbrook, he worked for Mohrman Chevrolet Garage until opening and operating Northside Garage where he worked until his death Thursday.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Howard Lee Massey; one sister-in-law, Jean Stoelting; one brother-in-law, Arthur E. Hunt; and a niece, Brenda Koch.

Survivors include his wife, Marguerite of Holbrook; two brothers, Floyd and wife, Sally Massey of Holdrege, and Robert and wife, Wanda Massey of Axtell; two sisters, Clara Mae Hunt of Garden City, Kan., and Donna June Johnson of Oldfort, Tenn.; one brother-in-law, Gordon Stoelting of Orleans; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be Tuesday, 2:30 p.m., at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege with the Rev. Melva Tranmer officiating. Interment will be at the Orleans Cemetery in Orleans.

Visitation is today until 9 p.m.. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home. The casket will remain closed.

A memorial has been established.
