Bison golfers roll to Lexington Invite title

LEXINGTON -- The McCook High School boys golf team claimed first-place honors at the Lexington Invitational Tuesday.
The meet took place at the Johnson Lake course.
The Bison posted a 304 score, led by Tyler Lawson's first-place 70.
Lexington finished second at 316, followed by North Platte 317, Kearney 320 and Broken Bow 322.
Grand Island Northwest was next at 334, Ogallala 337, Holdrege 338, Gothenburg 344, Cozad 356, Lexington B 360, Minden 360, Grand Island 376, Chase County-Imperial 379 and Lexington C 439.
McCook's Bobby Gaulke was the third-place medalist with a 75.
Brandon Crick claimed the 14th-place medal with a 79.
Just missing a medal was Brett Chmiel, who fired an 80. Kelly Maiden added an 87, followed by Mitch Hazlitt with a 94.
"It was a tough finish for Tyler last week (who placed 10th with a 75 at the Kearney Invitational last Thursday)," said McCook boys golf coach Ron Coleman. "We played solid golf -- the team is right on course. We hope we're saving our best for May."
No individual scores were available from Chase County.
The Bison will compete against several Class A teams and Class C power Gering Thursday at the Hastings Invitational. The tournament will be played at Lochland Country Club.
McCook hosts the McCook Invitational Tuesday at Heritage Hills and competes at the Gothenburg Invitational April 22.
The McCook Bison boys junior varsity golf squad competes at 9 a.m. April 24 at the Chase County-Imperial Invitational.
