Dundy County girls avenge losses to Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE -- The Dundy County Tiger girls basketball team avenged two straight losses to conference rival Cambridge with a 48-40 win Saturday night.

Dundy County used a 16-5 fourth quarter to seal the win and finished with three players in double digits.

Alison Glidden had a double-double with a team-high 14 points and 16 rebounds.

Amber Morris provided another 12 points, while Echo Steele chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Cambridge's Lisa Minnick led her team with 6 field goals for 12 points plus a team-leading 6 rebounds. Kaci Nickerson finished with 9 points.

Dundy County outrebounded Cambridge 35-23.

Cambridge had defeated Dundy County in the final round of the Oberlin tourney and Republican Valley League championship game.

CAMBRIDGE -- Cambridge rolled to a 56-43 defeat of Dundy County on Saturday night, led by 16 points from Matt Depperschmidt.

Marcus Vontz followed with 13 points, with Derik Light at 12 points. Light led his team at the boards with 8 rebounds.

Four players scored for the Tigers led by 13 each from Dustan Riley and Austin Davis.

Ben Baird finished with 11 points and shared rebounding honors with Davis, both at 4 each.

Cambridge hit 7-of-11 free-throws, while the Tigers were 4-of-8.

TRENTON -- Three Lakeside Central players had a double-double in Saturday's 77-47 win over Maywood.

Chancy Clarkson finished with a team-high 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Cody Daniels hit 20 points and grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds, while Shane Hilker had a dozen points and rebounds.

Maywood's Marshall Fischer nailed 17 points for the Tigers. Craig Hazen finished with 12 points.

"We've been playing hard and we finally got a win in the last three games," said Lakeside Central coach Michael Baker.

TRENTON -- The Lakeside Central girls used a 27-14 fourth quarter to stretch out to a 64-44 win Saturday at Trenton.

Megan Brennan poured in 20 points for the Falcons.

Jenna Faimon added 15, Ashley Kauffman 10 and Lacey Lewis 8.

Crystal Zwick led the Tigers with 15 points. Hollie Hansen scored 13 and Nicola Arensdorf 9.

"Our seniors scored 8-10-15-20 points," said Falcons' coach Doug Newcomb. "I was tickled at how the seniors turned it up when they needed to."

The Falcons play at Twin Valley Friday.

HAYES CENTER -- Kayla Laird pitched in 14 points to lead the Hayes Center Cardinals to a 45-22 win over Culbertson on Saturday.

Amy Cox added another 10 points, while Mary Gohl led at the boards with 11 rebounds.

Jenny Hamilton pulled down another 10 rebounds for the Lady Cardinals.

The top scorers for the Lady Bears were Allyx Brown and Bailey Lacey, each with 6 points and all of those points from beyond the arc. Kayla Bauer and Michelle Slater each grabbed 6 rebounds.

Hayes Center outrebounded the Lady Bears, 31 to 22.

"We did not come out with the intensity we needed to early, but we did play better after the half," said Culbertson coach Barry Schaeffer. "Our shooting again was a problem. A bright spot was our three-point shooting, however."

HAYES CENTER -- Curtis Olson led the Culbertson Bears with 16 points on the way to a 52-42 win over Hayes Center.

Teammate Joseph Frecks chipped in another 13 points, followed by 9 from Brandt Hagan.

"We played a good, all-around game," said Culbertson coach Mike Tines. "Our whole team is stepping up their play."

Hayes Center's Nathan Griffiths had a team-high 16 points. Ben Maucher finished with 8 points and led his team with 6 rebounds.

Hayes Center pulled down 24 rebounds to Culbertson's 21.

"We outplayed Culbertson except for a 13-2 run in the second quarter that proved to be our down fall," said Hayes Center coach Jim Cole.

"We have improved considerably from the first game with Culbertson."

WAUNETA -- Wauneta-Palisade dropped a game Saturday night, falling to Sutherland 63-55.

The Broncos' Matt Klima nailed 4 3-pointers in the second quarter to help his team take the lead into halftime. Sutherland returned to outscore the Broncos 17-9 in the third quarter.

Klima finished the night with a team-high 17 points, all of those coming in the first half.

Teammate Andrew Isom followed with 15 points.

Sutherland was led by 14 points each from Chase Rueby and Michael Frary.

Garrett Paulman also reach double-digits with 12 points.

NORTH PLATTE -- Eustis-Farnam claimed third place at the Central Platte Conference tourney Saturday after defeating Arnold, 38-24 in the consolation match.

Lauren Gengenbach and Lisa Fagot each scored 8 points to lead the Lady Knights, followed by 7 from Jessika Lehmann.

Teammate Chelsea Wolf pulled down 11 rebounds and had two steals. HaLea Messersmith finished with 4 assists and 3 rebounds.

Arnolds Pamela Larreau had a team-high 10 points.

The Knights (14-3 and 6-1 in the CFC) hit 7-of-11 free throws, while Arnold was 4 of 15.

Grant Bailey led Jennings with 15 points, followed by 13 from Adam Wahlmeier, who hit a trio of 3-pointers.

Marcus McKenna added another 11 points in the loss.

Four Sharon Springs players reached double figures led by 20 from Kyle Elder.

Jennings hit 13 of 22 free-throws. Sharon Springs was 15 of 30.

WALLACE -- Hayes Center opened the weekend with a 50-44 win over host Wallace on Friday night.

Sara Richter finished with a double-double on a game-high 20 points including 6-of-9 shooting from the free-throw line and 15 rebounds.

Mary Gohl and Kayla Laird each chipped in 9 points.

Two Wallace players reached double digits.

Wallace was 9-of-22 from the charity stripe, while the Cardinals were 15-of-23.
