Hot fun in the summer time

Well, it's time for the annual round-up of summer concerts coming to a venue near you. As is traditional for this column, I'll start with the big events occurring in Las Vegas and then follow-up next week with Denver, Lincoln, Comstock and State Fairs in our area. Hopefully, you'll find something that you just can't stay away from. Remember, music is good for the soul.
MAY -- As everyone probably knows by now, Celine Dion is appearing indefinitely in The Colosseum at Caesar's Palace. Olivia Newton-John will be at the Paris Hotel and Casino from Thursday the 15th through Saturday the 17th. On Thursday, the 22nd, the MGM Grand Garden Area will feature the "VH1 Divas Duets" starring Chaka Khan, Jewel, Mary J. Blige, and Queen Latifah. Air Supply will be at the Orleans Casino from Thursday, the 22nd through Saturday the 24th. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy will be appearing one night only, on Friday the 23rd at the House of Blues. Tony Bennett will be at the Paris Hotel and Casino Friday the 23rd through Monday, the 26th. Hootie and The Blowfish will be at the Stratosphere Outdoor Event Center On Saturday, the 25th. Starship featuring Mickey Thomas will be at the Silverton Casino on Sunday the 25th. Rounding out the month will be Crosby, Stills and Nash at the Aladdin Theatre on the 31st and the Stratosphere Hotel will feature Bad Company's Paul Rodgers, Blue Oyster Cult, and Kansas on the same night.
JUNE - Huey Lewis and the News will be at the Las Vegas Hilton on Thursday the 5th through Saturday the 7th. Paul Anka will be at the MGM Grand Hotel from Thursday the 5th through Wednesday the 11th. Idlewild and Pearl Jam will be appearing at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Friday the 6th. The Las Vegas Hilton will feature Sheena Easton from Tuesday the 10th through July 13th. The Mandalay Bay Events Center will present American Hi-Fi, Sugar Ray, and matchbox twenty on Friday the 13th. David Lee Roth will perform one night only at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel on Saturday the 14th. Mary Wilson of the Supremes will join Sheena Easton at the Las Vegas Hilton on Saturday the 14th. Kenny Chesney will be performing at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on the 14th as well. On Friday, the 20th, Lou Reed will be at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Ziggy Marley will be at the House of Blues. On the 20th and the 21st, Al Green will be featured at the Paris Hotel and casino and the Beach Boys will be at the Stratosphere Hotel. Saturday the 21st will find Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Clint Black will be at the Paris Hotel and Casino on Thursday the 26th through Saturday the 28th. The Santa Fe Station Casino will be hosting Grand Funk Railroad on Friday the 27th.
JULY -- This month is going to be a huge month in Vegas, starting with Sheena Easton, still appearing at the Las Vegas Hilton until the 14th. Little Feat will be at the House of Blues on Thursday, the 3rd and The Santa Fe Station Casino will be hosting Herman's Hermits starring Peter Noone the same night. The Neville Brothers will have a three day run at the Stardust Resort and Casino from Thursday the 3rd through Saturday the 5th. Eddie Money will be appearing at the Santa Fe Station Casino on Friday the 4th. The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel will feature Poison, Skid Row, and Vince Neil on Saturday the 5th and the band I'm waiting to see, Fleetwood Mac, will be at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on the 5th as well, for one night only. Finally on the 5th, Jerry Lee Lewis will be at the Orleans Arena. Peter Frampton will share the stage with Sheena Easton at the Las Vegas Hilton on Friday the 11th and Saturday the 12th. Engelbert Humperdinck begins a run at the Las Vegas Hilton, following Sheena Easton's closing, from Tuesday the 15th through Sunday, August 3rd. Air Supply will be at the Sun Coast Hotel Friday the 18th through Sunday the 20th.
The Dixie Chicks will be performing at the MGM Grand Garden Arena for two nights only, Saturday the 26th and Sunday the 27th. Also on the 26th and 27th, Cyndi Lauper and Meat Loaf will be appearing at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
AUGUST -- August starts off with one of my favorite blues guitarists and singers, Boz Scaggs, appearing at the House of Blues on Friday, the 1st. Heart will be at the Las Vegas Hilton on Saturday the 2nd and Boston will be appearing at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The ageless Tom Jones begins an extended stay at the MGM Grand Hotel, beginning on Thursday, the 7th and performing until Wednesday, the 20th. Olivia Newton-John will be back at the Paris Hotel and Casino for three nights, Thursday the 14th, through Saturday the 16th. The Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino will feature Kenny Loggins on Friday the 15th and The Marshall Tucker Band will be performing at the Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas on Monday the 18th. Vince Gill will be at the Paris Hotel and Casino, from Thursday the 21st through Saturday the 23rd. Ray Charles will be tickling the keys at the Texas Station Casino on Saturday the 23rd. Air Supply returns to the Orleans Casino Thursday the 28th through Sunday the 31st and Huey Lewis and the News are back at the Las Vegas Hilton for the same nights. Johnny Rivers will be at the Santa Fe Station Casino on Friday the 29th and Mary Wilson of the Supremes will be at the Sun Coast Hotel on Friday the 29th and Saturday, the 30th. The summer will end on a huge note with Ringo Starr and his All starr Band playing at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and featuring Ringo Starr, Colin Hay (Of Men At Work), John Waite, Mark Rivera, Paul Carrack and Sheila E. And finally, Mariah Carey will continue her comeback, appearing at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on Saturday the 30th.
