Sign of the end times

Wednesday, January 23, 2002

Dear Editor,

The end is near! How many times have you seen this spoofed in the comics? A man walking around carrying a sign saying "THE END IS NEAR."?

We receive all kinds of warnings "Danger, bridge may be icy." "There's a big snowstorm coming. Stay home or don't go out on the roads if you don't have to be out."

Some have been awakened out of their sleep and told their house is on fire, get your family out." In 1935, when the flood swept down the Republican River valley, many who lived in the valley were warned to get out and get to high ground. Many fled to safety. Unfortunately, there were those who said there has never been a flood down this valley, and they refused to leave the "security" of their homes and perished. Everything they owned was swept away in the flood. There were those who perished because no one warned them.

In Noah's day, Biblical researchers believe there was a population of about four billion people all over the earth. In the 120 years that it took Noah to build the Ark, he preached that there was going to be a great flood that would cover the entire earth.

God had told Noah in Genesis 6:9-14a "This is the history of the generations of Noah. Noah was a just and righteous man, blameless in his (evil) generation; Noah walked (in habitual fellowship) with God. vs. 10, "And Noah became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth. vs. 11 "The earth was depraved and putrid in God's sight, and the land was filled with violence (desecration, infringement, outrage, as-sault and lust for power). And God looked upon the world and saw how degenerate, debased, and vicious it was, for all humanity had corrupted their way upon the earth and lost their true direction. vs 13, God said to Noah, I intend to make an end of all flesh, for through men (wicked men) the land is filled with violence; and behold, I will destroy them and the land." vs 14, "Make yourself an ark of gopher or cypress wood." The Bible says, "As it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be in the days preceding the coming of the Son of Man (Jesus Christ). As you watch or hear the news on TV and radio, as you see all the filth that there is on TV and the Internet, you can readily identify that "the end is near." After the Ark was completed, God told Noah to get all of the birds and animals into the Ark and God Himself shut the door." Friend, I don't know the day nor the hour of His coming for those that are His, but I do know that the end is near, as I study the Word of God. It could be any moment or it could be 5 or 10 years from now. The Bible says, "A wise man looketh well to his going." By faith you can enter into the Ark of Safety, the Lord Jesus Christ. He died in your place. He bore your sins (all of them) in His own body on the tree. He stands ready to forgive you of All your sins, the moment you call on Him and receive Him as your personal Savior. The Bible says, "Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord (sincerely) shall be saved." Won't you call upon Him today, wherever you are, and receive Him as your Savior before God "closes the door" on this age and begins to pour out His wrath on a wicked and unbelieving world?

I will be showing the video 25 Messianic Signs by Dr. Noel Hutchings this coming Sunday evening, Jan. 27 at the Evangelical Free Church here in McCook at 6 p.m. The church is located just two blocks south of Community Hospital.

This will give those of you in the outlying areas such as Imperial, Wauneta, Hayes Center, Curtis, Eustis, Arapahoe, Oxford, Beaver City, Wilsonville, Cambridge, Norton, Oberlin, Atwood, McDonald and all the rest of the towns in between, plenty of time to drive in.

Bring your friends and neighbors. This is not a denominational thing. Everyone is welcome. Hope to see you then. Your Friend, Paul Schneider

McCook
