What is next?

Thursday, February 7, 2002

Open letter to Gov. Mike Johanns:

I believe that taking cigarettes away from the prisoners and guards is unjust. I do not smoke, but that does not mean that anyone cannot smoke.

What is next, we cannot drink beer or whiskey or even whine? We live in the U.S.A. not the Soviet Union. It is fine to tell the young people they cannot smoke until they reach voting age. It would not surprise me a bit if the smokers in Nebraska did not vote for you for governor or vote for Mr. Baker for the Unicameral.

If you are old enough to vote, you are old enough to drink and smoke or are you taking away everything from the citizens of the Great State of Nebraska. Yes smoking kills but it is unfair for you people to be judge and juror at the same time, play God.

Adults are able to make their own decision; children are not. Therefore, if you say the adults cannot smoke, does that mean they are not old enough to vote or drink beer?

This is an observation. If the adult knows that smoking can kill him or her then that should be their decision, not the governor nor the State Legislature nor the federal government. The big question is (what is next) that they want to tell you what you can or cannot do in the Free U.S.A.
