Alumni can help celebrate 75 years of McCook College
Help celebrate the 75th anniversary of Nebraska's oldest junior college!
You can do so in many ways, starting by sharing your memories for a special edition planned by the McCook Campus of the Mid-Plains Community College Area and the McCook Daily Gazette.
Here's all that's required. Sit down with a sheet of paper, typewriter or computer and jot down your favorite memories about the junior college which originated in McCook in 1926.
Include a picture of yourself or a snapshot from your college days, and we will include the information in the special edition.
The deadline for sending your written memories and pictures will be Tuesday, March 26. That will give the director of the college edition, Gloria Masoner, time to have your story typeset and included in the 75th anniversary section.
The special edition will be inserted in the Thursday, April 4th issue of the McCook Daily Gazette.
Send your written memories and pictures to: Gloria Masoner, City Editor; McCook Daily Gazette, P.O. Box 1268, McCook, NE 69001.
Sadly, two members of the college's first graduating class passed away in the past year. 'Rene Creasman and Judge Wendell Cheney had incredible memories and shared many inspirational stories about the early days of the college in their living years.
You can help honor the 1928 graduates' memories and keep the flame of college spirit burning brightly. Your recollections will become part of a lasting tribute to the educational institution which has gone by many names: McCook Junior College, McCook Community College, plain old McCook College and, now, the McCook Campus of Mid-Plains Community College.
It's not so important what we call Nebraska's oldest and most beautiful junior college campus. What is important is the love and pride we feel for this precious, home-grown educational institution.
Sit down soon to record your McCook College memories. Remember, we will need your written memories and pictures by or before Tuesday, March 26.
