McCook residents go the extra mile

Way to go, McCook citizens!

You did an excellent job of standing up for the McCook Community College name at Wednesday night's meeting of the Mid-Plains Area board.

All the remarks were sincere and impassioned, showing once again how devoted the people of McCook are to Nebraska's oldest junior college.

For reasons of pride, history and fund-raising, it is extremely important to the alumni and supporters of the college that the McCook Community College name be restored.

We hope the 11-member Mid-Plains board agrees. We will be watching and waiting anxiously as they make the naming decision in September.

Listen to the Water Committee!

Members of the McCook Water Advisory Committee were right on target Monday night when they said the committee should have an opportunity to present their findings and recommendations before a decision is made on the water issue by the City Council.

Absolutely and unequivocally, the water advisory group's members should have the right to present their opinions. These people gave generously of their time to listen to an abundance of information and study the issues 0n their own. Let's hear them out. After all, it is we the people who are ultimately responsible for using and paying for whatever kind of water system is decided upon. Let's hear from all sides ... especially those who have devoted so many hours to studying the water issues.

Experts are helpful ... and their input is essential. But the wishes and desires of the people must be taken into account before a final decision is made.

Hot Summer Nights Finale!

Thanks to the staff of McCook National Bank and to the members of the McCook Chamber of Commerce!

You are providing a wonderful public service with the "Hot Summer Nights" programs at Norris Park. Let's all show our appreciation by turning out for the summer finale tonight, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the park.

How great it is to have so many community members gathered together in a festive atmosphere. That's what makes community living so good and we're grateful to all those who are making it possible through the "Hot Summer Nights" series.
