Cambridge firefighters take a much-needed break after containing the early morning fire that destroyed the Medicine Creek Lodge at Harry Strunk Lake.

Firefighters from six towns were called to an early morning fire that destroyed the Medicine Creek Lodge at Harry Strunk Lake early this morning.

Firefighters from Bartley, Cambridge, Indianola and HEA (a combined force for the towns of Holbrook, Edison and Arapahoe) arrived at the location after receiving a call at 6:29 this morning from lodge owner Trish Houser, said Cambridge Fire Chief Don Trosper.

Upon their arrival, the firemen found the building engulfed in flames, with the windows missing from the structure and the roof near collapse. They were able to contain the fire, preventing damage to adjacent buildings. Cambridge Coop aided the firemen by providing the necessary water.

Houser had discovered the fire at about 6:15 this morning, when she arrived to begin preparations for opening the lodge. After attempting to extinguish the fire herself, she called 911.

Houser praised the quick response of the firefighters.
