WIFE wins USDA grant

WASHINGTON -- The Trenton chapter of Women Involved in Farm Economics and its education foundation will receive a $24,755 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The USDA distributed $1.6 million in grant funds for projects designed to help provide new ways for agriculture producers to manage risks to their businesses and provide resources for outreach and educational opportunities to underserved farmers and ranchers.

U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel applauded the USDA's commitment to providing Nebraska farmers and ranchers risk management tools to build and maintain their businesses.

The grant to the Trenton WIFE group is earmarked for the chapter's Foundation for Agriculture Education and Development.

Other grants were awarded to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the UNL Board of Regents in Lincoln, $1,478,537; Nebraska Legal Services, Omaha, $50,000; Center for Rural Affairs in Walthill, $41,000; and the Nebraska Grain and Feed Association, Lincoln, $5,000.
