MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Shayleen Jo (Wederski) Brown, 33, died Friday (Aug. 15, 2003) at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, Kan., following an extended battle with cancer.

She was born Aug. 3, 1970, to Carl and Cheryl (Grabenstein) Wederski in Colby, Kan. She resided in Manhattan since 1989. She graduated from Atwood High School in 1989. She graduated from Kansas State University in 1994 with her bachelor of science degree in biology and chemistry.

She was a patrol secretary for the Riley County Police Department.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan and a former member of the Atwood Methodist Church of Atwood. She was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Survivors include her daughter, Katelyn Brown of Manhattan; her parents, Carl and Cheryl Wederski of Atwood; one brother, Mike Wederski of Abilene, Kan.; and her grandmother, Mary Grabenstein of Colby.

Services are Tuesday, 10 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan with the Rev. Jan Todd officiating. Additional services are Wednesday, 10 a.m., at the Atwood United Methodist Church in Atwood with the Rev. Terry McGuire officiating. Interment will be at the Atwood Fairview Cemetery in Atwood.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, 6-8 p.m., at the Williams Funeral Chapel in Atwood.

Memorials may be given to the Katelyn Brown Education Fund or the Terry C. Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University and may be left at Williams Funeral Home of Atwood.

Williams Funeral Home of Atwood is in charge of the local arrangements.
