Former McCook man displays sculptures in Arizona exhibit
PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Former McCook resident, Bob Prest, has two sculpted pieces on display in the Capturing the Wild exhibit at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, Ariz.
The show is a commemoration of 100 years of the National Wildlife Refuge System featuring the work of thirty artists with fifty pieces on display.
Prest has on display "Hunter" a Peregrine Falcon and "Night Sentinel" a Great Horned Owl. The show will remain open through August.
Prest is a graduate of McCook High School and the University of Nebraska system. His mother Fritzi Hormel still lives in McCook. He spent 22 years in the U.S. Navy. His work travels took him to the Mediterranean and Asia, which helped develop his interest in art.
He turned to woodcarving after retirement as an expressive outlet. He trained with carver Floyd Scholz, at Loveland School of Sculpture with Tuck Langland and is enrolled at Scottsdale Artists School studying sculpture with Langland and Susan Henningston.
He is a judged member of the Arizona Artists Guild and is associated with Arizona Woodcarvers and the Pebble Creek Woodcarvers. His work is regularly shown in the Arizona Woodcarvers and the Grand Canyon Woodcarvers Shows, winning several awards.
