Cat Walk
Janelle Johnson's students at Lakeside Central High School at Trenton display their cat statues at the McCook Fine Arts Gallery, 209 Norris Ave. The project is modeled after J. Does of Omaha and the Cow Parade of Kansas CIty. The design for each cat required research by the students which was incorporated into the finely detailed work. Johnson's curriculum is a discipline-based art education, designed to give the students a well-rounded art foundation. "They learn to know why they are doing what they do," explained Johnson, "which helps them to enjoy the process from start to finish." The exhibit will be on display during regular gallery hours through the month of May. Johnson will open an exhibit of her own work at Lincoln Federal Savings on June 1.
