Legion teams ready for state

Thursday, July 31, 2003

The McCook National Bank Seniors will be taking the baseball field in Blair at 5 p.m. on Friday to compete against the Lincoln Amigos in the first-round of the American Legion State Tournament.

The Amigos consist of players from Lincoln Lutheran and Lincoln Christian High Schools.

The Amigos have compiled a record of 30-12 during their season.

MNB has a 27-24 record after capturing the Area 6 district championship.

MNB coach Tye Hallowell said he hasn't heard much about the Lincoln Amigos, but he knows that they will be throwing their best stuff at his team.

"It's the first round of the state tournament and so we'll be facing their best pitcher. They'll be at their best, but so will we. So we feel really confident," Hallowell said.

MNB will be throwing ace Matt Serbousek against the Amigos. Serbousek is coming off a pair of dominating performances during district action.

Included in the efforts is the district final in which he threw with second degree burns on his throwing arm.

Serbousek was not in the batting order in that game, but after some impressive performances in the batting cages, Hallowell said Serbousek will be reinserted in the batting order.

The Lincoln Amigos matchup and the rest of the MNB Seniors state baseball games will be aired on 93.9 The Prairie.
