NRD approves budget

CURTIS, Nebraska -- At Tuesday's Board meeting, the Middle Republican NRD directors approved a budget for the 2013-14 financial year. The proposed $34,402,150 budget was based on a total levy rate of .037550 and an occupation tax rate of $10 per acre. The board voted to adopt a budget with a tax levy rate of .034141 which is the levy rate of the 2012-13 financial year. The change removes about $100,000 from Ground Water Management funds...

In Hawaii they say "Aloha." In France, it's "Adieu." The Dutch say "Tot ziens" and in Punjab it's "Alweda." In Southwest Nebraska, it's "Watch out for deer!" A humorous observation, perhaps, but good advice nonetheless. In Nebraska, according to the most recent statistics, one driver in 110 is likely to hit a deer. That's about twice the national rate, which is about one in 193 drivers...

Military might makes others more hesitant to attack another government if they may have to answer to a super power.
