NFL Rankings Week 6 2017-2018
Quite a bit happened during week 6, we saw the Chiefs return to earth with their first loss of the season (and a return to their old ways of not being able to play from behind), we saw the Giants who had been decimated at wide receiver last the week before completely dominate the Broncos IN Denver and pick up their first win (and yes I realize that just last week I said I did not know where the Giants would pick up a win, oops), Aaron Rodgers had his collar bone broken thus ending his, and probably the Packer's, season.
We also continued to see horrible officiating and video replay. The whole idea behind video replay was to reverse bad calls on the field, not actually commit them. In the Jets-Patriots game the Jets appeared to score a touchdown pulling the game into one possession. After reviewing the replay the head official somehow came to the opinion that the Jets ball carrier had fumbled the ball out of the end zone and gave the ball to the Patriots. All the replays I have seen, the Jets ball carrier did juggle the ball but NEVER lost possession of the ball. The call was just flat out wrong. For those who hate the Patriots (I do not count myself in that category) this was just more fuel to the fire that the NFL will do anything it can to ensure that that Pats win.
On to the rankings:
Rankings
1. Philadelphia Eagles (5-1)
The Eagles are the first team not named the Chiefs to be ranked first this season. They face the Redskins this week, in a game they should win. But is this season has taught me one thing it is to expect the unexpected. I could see Washington come away with this win and not be surprised a bit. Last week: Beat Carolina 28-23
Next up: at home against Washington (Monday 10/23)
2. Kansas City Chiefs (5-1)
The Chiefs looked lethargic in their game against the Steelers. They definitely appeared to take a step back this week and looked like the same old Chiefs, who once they fall behind have no idea what to do to get back into it. They have a short turn around and travel to play the Raiders who are steadily getting worse this season. Last week: Lost to Steelers 19-13
Next up: at the Raiders (Thursday 10/19)
3. Los Angeles Rams (4-2)
The Rams make their second appearance in the top four this season. This year feels different than past seasons and they have a legitimate shot of not only making the playoffs but winning the West. Of course they are just as likely to finish the year 3-7 and miss the playoffs yet again. They looked dominant against the Jags this past weekend, then again everyone looks dominant against the Jags when the game is in Jacksonville. Last week: beat the Jaguars 27-17
Next up: at home against the Cardinals
4. Minnesota Vikings (4-2)
Who knows how the game would have turned out if Rogers had played the entire game healthy. He did not and the Vikings picked up the win. If they can decide on a quarterback they could make some serious noise this year. Last week: beat the Packers 23-10
Next up: at home against the Vikings
5. Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2) Last week: beat the Chiefs 19-13; next up: at home against the Bengals
6. Washington (3-2) Last week: beat the 49ers 26-24; next up: at the Eagles (Monday, 10/23)

22. Cincinnati Bengals (2-3) Last week: Bye; next up: at the Steelers
23. Dallas Cowboys (2-3) Last week: Bye; next up: at the 49ers
24. Detroit Lions (3-3) Last week: lost to the Saints 52-38; next up: Bye

28. Oakland Raiders (2-4) Last week: lost to the Chargers 17-16; next up: at home against the Chiefs (Thursday 10/19)
Bottom Four
29. Indianapolis Colts (2-4)
The Colts join the Bottom Four despite playing decent in the first half of their games. The second halves have gotten way out of control for the Colts and that is why they find themselves in this position. Of course, the gurus believe that at this point there is no reason to bring back Andrew Luck at this point and just let him take the rest of the year off. If Luck can get back he will. The Colts are only 2-4, the season is far from lost at this point. Last week: Lost to the Titans 36-22
Next up: at home against the Jaguars
30. New York Giants (1-5)
The Giants got off the snide this week in a surprise easy win against the Broncos, but they are not out the bottom four yet. Their win can be much more attributed to their defense than offense. They virtually have no offense, but their defense came to play. It is widely accepted that the Broncos did not take the game seriously as well, but they won so they are no longer the worst team in the NFL, for at least this week. Last week: Beat the Broncos 23-10
Next up: at home against the Seahawks
31. San Francisco 49ers (0-6)
The 49ers need a quarterback (I hear Kaepernick is still available). Honestly, they need a whole new team. Having said that, at some point they will get on a roll. Outside of their first game this year (a dominating win by the Panthers 23-3) they have lost their last 5 games by 3,2,3,3, and 2 (in other words a COMBINED 13 points in the last five games). Could this be the week they finally get over the top? Last week: Lost to Washington 26-24
Next up: at home against the Cowboys
32. Cleveland Browns (0-6)
Oh, the Browns. What a train wreck. Since the Browns and Bengals met in a winless Ohio match, the Browns have continued to look like a dumpster fire while the Bengals are beginning to look decent. They passed on good quarterbacks in this past draft (including a quarterback that had just won the National Championship at the college level). By the way the team they just lost two drafted that quarterback the Browns passed on. Ouch. Last week: Lost to the Texans 33-17
Next up: at home against the Titans
Bye Week: Lions and Texans
