Big Brother 19 Week 5 Recap and Updates
This week is appearing to be a complete wash with the threat of the halting hex out there. First, let us see how we got to this point. Ramses was voted out 7-3 by a house that for the second time was going against "power" couple Jody (Jessica and Cody). The first time was Week 1 when Cody tried unsuccessfully to put Paul o the block and then put Christmas on the block. The house went against his wishes and voted Jillian out of the house. One could count the first time Jessica was HOH and Paul convinced her to get rid of Dominique. The blindside of Ramses was completely unseen by Cody but expected by Jessica, who really wanted to take Ramses off the block and put up someone else that would ensure Josh went home. Cody, however, convinced her not to and she ended up blindsided as well.
The HOH comp was a True/False about the previously evicted guests. Jessica was unable to play due to being the outgoing HOH. In quick succession Mark, Elena, and Cody were eliminated from the comp, leaving Paul's side of the house in charge again. Paul eventually would win the comp for his second HOH of the season.
Before nominations were made the new twist was put on the house. House guests were able to individually decide if they would participate in the Temptation Competition. The winner would be safe for the week the person who came in last would be a third nominee on the block. Alex, Jason, Mark, and Kevin opted into the comp. Mark won with the fastest time, Jason (who went first) got the worst time and went on the block.
Paul ultimately decided to put Jessica and Cody on the block in an attempt to call her bluff that they were safe for the next few weeks. The POV comp involved house guests doing a weather report in the rain and debris while answering questions. Paul won the POV for his second of the season. Paul once again asked Jessica what the hex entailed and she finally told him that that she could stop the eviction from going through, meaning that if she called the halt everyone on the block would be safe from eviction and there would be no renoms.
In the end Paul decided to take Jason off the block leaving his nominations the same. Paul attempted to make a deal with Jessica that if she did not use the hex (allowing the house to vote out Cody) he would make sure that Alex went home next week. What she did not know is that Paul would go through the motions of getting everyone to go along with the plan but not actually do it. In the end Jessica opted to still plan on using the halting hex. That is where we are at this point. A wasted week. There were some great fights between Mark and Josh and Cody and Josh and Cody and Paul and Cody and Jessica, but with no one actually going home this should have been a relaxing week, it was far from it.

Rankings
The bottom two are Cody and Jessica, the top three are Paul, Alex, and Kevin. The rest between can be interchanged with ease as they all are riding the coattails of either Alex or Paul.
12. Cody
Cody is a horrible person, nothing has changed in this regard. He continues to take shots at the rest of the house only to Jessica but not to any of their faces. He got in a spat with Paul this week, during Paul's reign. If not for Jessica and her halting hex he would be gone this week. Because Cody is a narcissist he even went after the one person on his side, Jessica. In a matter of two days he questioned her loyalty twice because Paul told her that Mark had told him in Week 1 that if Cody needed to get rid of Jessica he would. He denied this to Jessica (though he did say it) and questioned her loyalty because of the question. She got pissed at him because of (in her word) the penis measuring fight he always had to have with Paul.
11. Jessica
Jessica is a very smart person when she does not have her head shoved up Cody's rear. Unfortunately that is where her head is firmly planted until her or Cody leave the house. She has completely thrown her game out the window for a guy she met at the beginning of the game. If she could free herself of Cody she could make it to the end of the game, however as of now (if Paul's side of the house gets power again tonight) she will not even make it to jury.
10. Mark
Mark has been found out for his changing views depending on who is in power. He has aligned himself with Cody, Paul, Jessica, Alex, Jessica, and Paul. He is the number one target in the house outside of Jody. He is still loyal to Jody while still pledging his loyal to Paul at the same time. This has not gone unnoticed in the house. Add that to the fact that Elena has also distanced herself from him and his game has completely collapsed. He did, however, get his first win of the season in the Temptation Competition which has kept him safe this week (the week that does not matter).
9. Elena
At one point Elena was so tied to Mark that she willingly abandoned Paul (who she has said she is closest to in the house) to team up with Jody. This pissed off the majority of the house in this move and was left out of the plans to blindside Jody by evicting Ramses rather than Josh. Once she realized that her game had been destroyed because of her alliance with Mark she quickly made moves to separate herself from Mark. Unfortunately for her she is the next target after Cody and Mark and possibly higher than Mark.
8. Christmas
Christmas is damaging her own game, simply because she keeps telling anyone who will listen her goal is only to make it to jury. She may not be serious, but anytime a houseguest begins saying that they will settle for less than winning their game is effectively over. More than likely she was never going to win with her broken foot, but the competitor in her should not have allowed her to give up so easily.
7. Josh
Josh has made it a lot farther into this game than I ever thought he would. This in large part to Christmas, Kevin, and Paul being able to get him to cool his jets in situations where he was likely to throw a punch. Also, Paul has been using him as a tool against Cody. He has been bullying the bully. It has gone overboard on occasion but this is the nature of the game. Because of this, as long as he does not go after any of his allies he will safely be in jury.
6. Raven
Raven has silently been making it far in this game. Her "fights" with Matt are some of the highlights of the live feeds. Jessica attacked her this week for being sketchy. Raven had not been acting sketchy in the least (other than not lying convincingly enough the week before) but Jessica usually does not need a reason to go after one of the women in the house. She is a lock for the jury at this point.
5. Matt
Matt is still the cut up in the house and he has gone along with every plan of Paul's throughout the season. He has often voiced his displeasure with some of the plans as well but always says that even though he does not agree with the plan he will go along with the plan. This alone will get him to jury but not much farther if he does not start winning some comps.
4. Jason
Jason is aligned with Paul, Kevin, and Alex. This alone should get him to the final four if nothing else changes. He is the loud one in the house and can easily break the tension of the house. He is also highly competitive in most competitions (outside of this week's Temptation Comp where he somehow came in last).
3. Kevin
Kevin is not only assured of the jury house but possibly the final three if not final two. Not bad considering he has not been competitive in a single comp. His social game is what is going to keep him in this house until the end. His stories are endless an no one considers him a threat.
2. Alex
By her own admission, Alex teamed with Paul reluctantly during his first HOH reign. Somehow this is still a secret alliance. She has not brought his name up once with any of the other house guests as a potential target, so she may be riding the Paul train to the end. She is extremely competitive in all aspects of comps and she has an excellent social game to go along with it. I can see her taking Kevin to the end if she is able to win the final HOH of the season and then picking up the win.
1. Paul
Paul has had his fingerprints on every single eviction this season and has already won HOH and POV twice (both during the same week). He is the veteran in the season and using his experience to get far in this game. He did go a little too far this week trying to get Cody to break (which got him in trouble with production). This week's HOH reign has been a waste for him as it dos not appear anyone is going home.
Prediction
No one goes home tonight. There is no way that Jessica does not use her halting hex at tonight's show. Everyone has told her that if she uses the halting hex to save Cody she becomes the target instead of him, but she has already thrown away her game for him, so those words are wasted on her.

Eviction update
To no one's surprise Jessica used her Hex tonight and stopped the eviction. No one was evicted.
HOH Winner
In a competition of chance, Josh pulled out the win. It is expected that Josh will put Jessica and Cody on the block. Right now it sounds like the target is Jessica, which as much as the house hates Cody seems like a bad choice.
Temptation Comp
The competition ended within the last 3o minutes after an almost 10 hour gap in feeds. Though, I am still not sure who all participated in the comp the house plan both worked and failed. Jessica came in last so she is the 3rd nominee. However, Cody won and is safe for the week.
Nominations
Elena and Mark (Marlena) were put on the block by Josh as "pawns". As of now Elena is still Josh's target this week. Elena figures out last week that her association with Mark was harming her game (because of his association with Jody) and she put distance between them. Unfortunately, for her, this realization came a week late. Elena's reaction to being on the block, even as a pawn, was not great and actually put a larger target on her back. Jessica countered that by yelling at Josh for his "mood swings" when all he was wanting to do was let her know she was not his target.
With Jessica already on the block, it was a smart move for Josh to put 2 of his other 3 targets (Cody is safe this week) on the block because it guarantees one them goes this week.
Mark was able to win the POV. Will he use it on himself or try to use it on Elena?
Stay tuned
POV Nom
Mark took himself off the block and Josh replaced him with Raven:
The houseguests seem surprised that Mark took himself off the block, but considering that he always said he was going to their surprise does not make much sense. If the houseguests go with Josh, Elena will be evicted on Thursday. If they go with Paul, Jessica will be. Having said that, Josh changed his mind at least three times yesterday who he wanted to send out. This could truly be one of those situations where the decision is made while the feeds are down on Thursday.
No matter who gets evicted on Thursday one of the couples will be split up. Even if Elena is evicted Marlene is gone for the season, despite her "breaking" up with him last week.
