Trojan boys, Bronco girls lead area recaps of hoops contests
HAYES CENTER, Neb. — Brady Ahlemeyer's 22 points and 16 from Krayton Ruggles fueled the Cambridge Trojans' 54-40 victory over Maywood-Hayes Center Friday night.
The duo struck for 21 before halftime to help off senior MayHay senior Jaxson Anders' four threes leading to 12 points.
Trailing just 28-23, Anders netted another five points during the third period.
Yet Cambridge (3-6 record) held the sharp Wolves' shooter scoreless in those final eight points.
Meanwhile, Ahlemeyer netted the final fine of his 22 which helped close this huge road win to start 2025.
Ahlemeyer finished with four triples to match Anders while Ruggles drilled another two.
Maverick Webb and Hodge Raburn also hit from long distance to ignite this Trojan victory.

BRADY, Neb. — The Hitchcock County boys reached 6-1 this season with a weather-shortened Brady Tournament victory on Friday.
No other details have been obtained.

MayHay 59, Cambridge 14
HAYES CENTER, Neb., — Junior Blayklee Farr lit up the home nets with eight for 11 shooting and 19 points Friday night to lead Maywood-Hayes Center.
Sophomore Caylie Softley scored 13 while senior Reagan Stengel tossed in 10 during another dominant MayHay win.
Both Softley and Farr pulled down five rebounds apiece while senior Aubrey Broz sent out four assists to match Karissa Stengel's team-leading total.
Karissa added another six points for coach Kim Stengel's 8-1 team.
No individual stats were obtained on the 3-6 Cambridge girls.
Bertrand 51, W-P 49 (OT)
BERTRAND, Neb. — Wauenta-Palisade's girls showed some great fight as they rallied from 10 points down in the fourth quarter to force overtime Friday night.
Freshman Mesa Cox netted 18 points with Kamryn Fanning scoring 14.
Molly Yearous added seven points and seven rebounds.
Cox's five assists were another Broncos' best. McKenna Doetker captured five more caroms off missed shots for 4-4 Wauneta-Palisade.
"I loved the way we were rebounding and defending from the get go," coach Matt Cox remarked. "Any time you can go on the road after Christmas and compete well, you are doing something right. We are on a good path to the new year. We just need to keep improving."
Anselmo-Merna 52, Hitchcock County 40
BRADY, Neb. — Madysen Carlson's 18 points and 12 rebounds highlighted the one Brady Holiday Tournament contest for those 3-4 Falcons.
Senior Kaiah Johnson mixed in six points with six boards. Reagan Hagan added five points and Riley Hagan four.
The Falcons' second holiday tourney game was canceled due to winter weather.
