District champ 'Riders, Trojans returning to state tourney

The Southwest Roughriders are 33-0 with their 3-0 sweep of Potter-Dix in Saturday's district championship match at North Platte High School. Southwest will take the No. 1 seed into Class D-1 state tournament play starting Thursday morning in Lincoln's Pinnacle Bank Arena. They'll open with a 1 p.m. quarterfinal against No. 8 Diller-Odell (19-11) on the North Court.

Results from Saturday's district volleyball championship matches which featured five Gazette-area teams qualified two for state while three complete strong winning seasons:

Class D-1

The Southwest Roughriders won 25-9, 25-13, 25-12 over Potter-Dix at North Platte High;

The Cambridge Trojans repeated as a Class D-1 district champ when they defeated Ansley-Litchfield, 3-1, at Cambridge High on Saturday. Cambridge will be seeded fourth among D-1 teams entering the state tournament starting Thursday morning at Lincoln's Pinnacle Bank Areana. The Trojans take on No. 5 EMF (Exeter-Milligan-Friend) with first serve set for 3 p.m. A win could set up another Cambridge-Southwest state semifinal match Friday morning.

Class D-2

Amherst defeated the Dundy County-Stratton Tigers 23-25, 25-12, 25-14, 25-23 at Amherst High.

Class C-2

Oakland-Craig defeated the Maywood-Hayes Center Wolves 25-12, 25-16, 25-15.

Class C-1

Kearney Catholic defeated the Chase County Longhorns 25-19, 25-19, 22-25, 19-25, 17-15.
