U.S. Attorney announces District Election Officers for Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. — The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nebraska, led by U.S. Attorney Susan T. Lehr, has appointed Assistant U.S. Attorneys (AUSAs) Christopher Ferretti and Shereece Dendy-Sanders as District Election Officers (DEOs) for the upcoming November 5, 2024, general election. These AUSAs will oversee election day complaints in Nebraska regarding voting rights, threats of violence to election officials, and election fraud in coordination with the Department of Justice’s nationwide Election Day Program.
Lehr emphasized the importance of protecting every citizen’s right to vote freely and fairly and ensuring election officials and workers are shielded from unlawful threats. "The Department of Justice will always work tirelessly to protect the integrity of the election process," Lehr said.
The Department of Justice plays a key role in deterring voter intimidation, election fraud, and threats against election personnel. Federal laws safeguard voters from various offenses, such as voter intimidation, bribery, vote-buying, ballot tampering, and impersonation. Additionally, the Voting Rights Act ensures that voters who require assistance can be helped by a person of their choosing.
Ferretti and Dendy-Sanders will be on duty during the election to respond to complaints and can be reached at (402) 661-3700. The FBI will also have agents available to address election-related abuses and can be contacted at (402) 493-8688.
Complaints regarding federal voting rights violations may also be directed to the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice through their online form at https://civilrights.justice.gov/ or by calling 800-253-3931.
For emergencies involving violence or intimidation, voters are encouraged to call 911 before contacting federal authorities.
