Paving project set to begin Aug. 21
McCOOK, Neb. — The City of McCook has confirmed that Shelco Construction will commence work on a major street asphalt paving project on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. The project, set to improve several streets within the city, will begin with the milling and resurfacing of West “C” Street between West 7th Street and West 10th Street.
During construction, West “C” Street will be closed to traffic. The project will involve milling the existing asphalt, re-grading and compacting the subgrade, laying down milled material as a base, and finally applying 4 inches of new asphalt. Once the work on West “C” Street is complete, crews will move on to West 8th Street, which will also be closed to traffic from West “A” Street to West 7th Street and reconstructed in a similar manner.
The City has emphasized that the project will be phased to ensure that all businesses in the area maintain access throughout the construction process. Additionally, new ADA ramps will be constructed at all intersections during this phase. The asphalt portion of the work is expected to take 30 working days to complete, with the construction of the concrete ADA ramps to follow once the asphalt work is finished.
In addition to the work on West “C” Street and West 8th Street, the project includes the milling and resurfacing of Norris Avenue from “F” Street to “O” Street and West “Q” Street from West 3rd Street to West 5th Street.
City officials will continue to provide updates as the project progresses. Residents with questions are encouraged to contact Kyle Potthoff at (308) 345-2022 ext. 231 for more information.
