MNB Seniors beginning playoffs with pivotal game today

BROKEN BOW, Neb. — There’s no crying in baseball, but a loss today will likely make the McCook National Bank Seniors really angry about this B-6 area baseball tournament.

With a win over No. 4 Holdrege, the No. 5-seed MNB boys (21-18 record) would get to play No. 1 Minden at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

MNB already smashed Minden, 9-1, and a Saturday victory would put coach Chris Conroy’s team in an early “driver’s seat” to the Class B state tournament starting Aug. 3.

Yet a loss today vs. Holdrege would make the state path very difficult for MNB or any other B-6 team.

“Definitely feel like game our will be our biggest hurdle,” Conroy said about a game that was to begin today at 11 a.m. in Broken Bow. “But having split with Holdrege once and playing well as we did, it doesn’t feel like a big hurdle by any means.”

C.C. added that “everybody is healthy, all pitchers are rested and we’ve got ourselves in as good a position as we can be.”

He believed MNB’s bats revived during a 15-0, 11-3 doubleheader sweep of Hi-Line that capped their regular season Monday night at the Jaycees Complex.

The Seniors have continued to swing while preparing for this seven-team showdown at Bow running through Tuesday’s B-6 tourney title game.

The official B-6 pairings can be seen on mccookgazette.com.

MNB owns wins over Minden, Holdrege and two against No. 6-seed Gothenburg. Only host No. 2 Broken Bow has gotten the better of MNB, winning both meetings this season.
