McCook High athletes place in state's top four

LINCOLN, Neb. — McCook High’s Ethan Schmidt delivered the highest speed score and Miles Pollmann joined him as top four placers at Tuesday’s Nebraska High School Performance Index State Championship.

Schmidt took third overall among a group of 10 elite Nebraska High School athletes.

Pollmann finished fourth with an agility score that was second among these selected participants.

Power was the third athletic factor added into Tuesday’s competition.

Schmidt finished top five for all three: first in speed (377 score), fifth in agility (262) and fifth in power (440).

His 1,079 total score was third behind only champion Collin Stolpe from Aurora with 1,248 points and runner-up Chase Smith of Malcolm (1,167 points).

Pollmann’s 334 agility score was second only to champion Stolpe.

He scored 286 for speed which was third behind Schmidt and Stolpe. Pollmann’s 432 power score completed his state fourth-place total of 1,052 points.

Cody Hass from Guardian Angels Central Catholic placed fifth (923).

“Both Ethan and Miles did very well,” McCook High head football coach Joe Vetrovsky said.
