INDIANOLA, Neb. – The Red Willow County Sheriff’s Office, along with Indianola Fire and Ambulance and McCook Fire and Rescue, responded to a two-vehicle accident involving a semi-truck and a car on Tuesday, July 16. The incident occurred north of Highway 6/34, adjacent to Timmerman Feedlot, in an area described as extremely dry and dusty with poor visibility due to a tree line on the east side of the road.

According to reports, the semi-truck was traveling northbound and slowing to make a turn when the car, also heading north at a higher speed, failed to see the truck in time due to the poor visibility. The car swerved left but collided with the rear driver’s side of the semi-trailer.

The semi-truck continued for a short distance before the car ran off the road to the right side.

The driver of the car was extricated from the vehicle, treated on-site, and then transported to McCook Hospital with minor injuries, including a possible lower extremity injury. Airbag deployment was among the complications noted at the scene.

During the incident, the car became engulfed in flames, which were extinguished by Indianola Fire. McCook Fire Chief consulted with Indianola Ambulance to provide additional assistance.

Sheriff Kevin Darling emphasized the importance of visibility in vehicle operation, particularly in adverse conditions such as dust, snow, or fog.

He reminded drivers to exercise caution to ensure safety on the roads.
