Barbara Kay Lykins

June 18, 1947 - June 30, 2024

TRENTON, Neb. - On June 18, 1947, Barbara Kay was born to Vencle and Ellen (Bergan) Janousek on the farm southwest of Trenton, known at that time as the Kelley Farm. She passed from this life on June 30, 2024 at the nursing home in Sutherland.

She began her formal education at District #60, a two room country school, south of Stratton. When the family moved into Trenton in 1956, she continued studying at the Trenton Public Schools.

On May 30, 1968, she married James Kleinschmidt in Atwood, Kan. Two daughters, Ronda and Tracy, joined this union. They resided in Atwood for a number of years. She loved to cook and share her talent with others. For many years, she was known for her delicious peanut brittle which she made and sold during the holiday season. She also liked the outdoors and raised a bountiful vegetable garden, along with flowers. Being a single woman, she moved out to the Denver area where she met and married Vincent Keyworth on Aug. 3, 1992. After Vince’s death, she moved back to Trenton. On Sep. 2, 2011 she married David Lykins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Vince and Dave, and a sister, Cecilia Brown. Left to mourn her are her daughters, Ronnie (Shellie) Janousek of Vancouver, Wash. and Tracy (Steve) Sramek of Trenton; grandchildren, Eric (Katie) Kleinschmidt, Megan Carter, Garret and Kloe Sramek, and Jenevieve Janousek; and three great-grandchildren, Stella, Rallo, and Astron; sisters, Elizabth Dixson, of Denver, Regina Thomas of Santee, Calif., Rita Stupka, Trenton, Margaret Brown, Ludell, Kan., Charlotte Janousek, Kimble, Shawna Meguire, Tucumcari, NM; brothers, Larry and Phil of Benkelman, Jerry of Trenton and Richard of Colby, Kan.

Services will be held at the St. James Catholic Church in Trenton on Aug. 3 at 10:00 a.m, with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Inurnment at the St. James Cemetery following the services.
