Leroy James Loghry

Dec. 2, 1942 - July 6, 2024

EDISON, Neb. - Leroy James Loghry, age 81, of Edison, Neb., went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, July 6, 2024. He was born in Rural Quick, Neb. on Dec. 2, 1942, to Joseph Emerson Loghry and Dorothy Louise Wolf.

His parents farmed north of McCook, Neb. prior to moving to McCook, Neb. in 1953.

After graduating from McCook High School in 1960, Leroy attended McCook Community College, and graduated in 1962. He joined the U.S. Army in 1963 and went to Fort Riley KaN. for boot camp basic training. He married Alene (Harman) Loghry in McCook on June 12, 1964.

Leroy and Alene resided in McCook where they raised one son – John. He worked as a full-time administrator and 1st Sargent of the National Guard Armory in McCook until his honorable discharge in 1991. Leroy was also very active with all of John’s sporting events, and especially in baseball. Leroy coached John all through his Little League career from ages 5 to 13. Then when John moved on to Legion Baseball from ages 14 to 17, he was the administrator for the Legion Baseball Teams.

In May of 1991 Leroy retired from the military and he and Alene moved to Edison.

In 1994 Leroy went to work for the Nebraska Department of Roads until 2002 where he finally then decided to retire for good to tinkering in his garage with all his tool projects and attending his grandchildren’s (Mandy and Brad) events.

Leroy acquired the fun nickname “Elmo” from John when John was 15 years old, and it stuck with him the rest of his life. Leroy was very dedicated to his military career. Alene used to always say when Leroy bled it wasn’t red, it was OD green! He was the 1st Sargent, and he loved his troops. In Leroy’s spare time he enjoyed fishing and working in his garage.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Loghry (1950), Dorothy (Wolf) Loghry (2007), and his wife of 59 years Alene (Harman) Loghry (2024). He is survived by his son John Loghry, sister Mary Anne O’Dea of Omaha, Neb., granddaughter Amanda Davis of Phoenix, Ariz., grandson Brad Loghry of Lawrence, Kan., great- granddaughter Hunter Loghry of Lawrence, Kan., and daughter-in-law Carol Apphun.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Edison Cemetery, Edison, Neb., with Pastor Kirk Einspahr, officiating. Following the graveside service, there will be a luncheon for everyone to attend at the Edison Community Building on Main Street in Edison, Neb.
