ARAPAHOE, Neb. - Vernon D. Bletscher, age 85, of Arapahoe, passed away at his home on July 6, 2024, surrounded by his three girls Rebecca, Nancy, and Becky. He was born on Jan. 11,1939 to Herbert W and Vesta M (Camblin) Bletscher in Robinson, Kan.

He was baptized in the Zion Evangelical Church in Falls City on April 24, 1940. The youngest of three children, Vern grew up around Falls City, and graduated from Falls City High School, in 1957. Vern worked in farming and even had some experience running heavy equipment.

He married Carol Harshbarger and from this union Nancy Marie and Becky Sue were born, they later divorced. Vern moved to Arapahoe in 1969 and worked for a local farmer. On March 11, 1971, he married Rebecca Mohrman, and together they lived in Arapahoe the remainder of his life.

In 1971, Vern went to work for Burlington Northern Railroad; he worked as an engineer until his retirement in 1998. He loved his home, he took great pride in his yard, garden, and farmland. Vern would often spend his time maintaining the integrity of farmland. He was awarded the 2008 Conservationist of the Year Award for his land conservation efforts. Vern also enjoyed carpentry as he would build beautiful furniture in his shop in the basement of his home, which is cherished by many. He would like to say he spent his free time making homemade sawdust. Vern was an avid sportsman, as he enjoyed fishing and hunting activities. He enjoyed sharing his farmland with family and friends. Vern’s elder brother Roger was a big role model for him, they grew up as lifelong best friends and as they got older they continued to plan fishing and hunting trips as often as they could.

Survivors include his wife Rebecca Bletscher of Arapahoe, daughters Nancy (Kevin) Holliday of Arapahoe, Neb., and Becky (Daniel) Goltz of Falls City, Neb., brother Roger (Darla) Bletscher, sister Neita Jo (Robert) Ferron, grandchildren: Shantel Schmit, McKenzie Holliday, Mandy Holliday, Angela Okuma, Micheal Holliday, Bobbi Goltz, Tiffany Gruber, Angie Clary, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild

He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Vesta, father and mother-in-law Herbert and Minnie Mohrman, brothers-in-law Kenny and Philip Mohrman, sister-in-law Gail Mohrman, and nephew Lee Mohrman and niece Salley.

Viewing and visitation will be Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Garey Funeral Home, 652 Main St., Arapahoe, Neb. Funeral Service will be Friday, July 12, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Arapahoe Methodist Church, Arapahoe, Neb. with George Probasco officiating. Burial following at Arapahoe Cemetery, Arapahoe, Neb.
