MCCOOK, Neb. — Coach Chris Conroy wasn’t calling on Mother Nature to “move em around and send them home” Wednesday night.

Unfortunately, lightning teamed with some rainfall did just that during the fourth inning of McCook National Bank’s Seniors home opener against Holdrege.

Trailing 3-1, MNB stranded two potential runs on the bases just before this stormy weather arrived.

First baseman Quentin Terry puts the tag on a Holdrege runner to compete the first-inning double play in McCook National Bank’s Legion baseball home opener Wednesday night at the Jaycees Complex. Weather soon suspended the contest.

“That was kind of our m.o. against Ogallala on Tuesday. I think we left like 10 runners on base,” Conroy said this morning. “And we left four or so in the first three innings last night. Our plan is get them on and move ’em around.”

Fortunately, Wednesday didn’t result in a loss like Tuesday’s 13-11 decision at Ogallala.

The MNB-Holdrege game was suspended until these area rivals meet again on June 26 in Holdrege. They’ll resume Wednesday’s contest with Holdrege leading 3-1 and then play the regularly-scheduled game.

McCook (3-4 record) is set to play at the Jaycees Complex again tonight against Gothenburg’s Melons. First pitch set for 8 p.m. following the First Central Bank Juniors (5:30 p.m. start) — weather and field conditions permitting.

MNB will focus on sending more runners across home plate like Espn Hall’s drive into center that scored Trent Raile Wednesday night.

Raile had reached on an infield single and moved around to third when Ollie Corbett roped a line-drive single into center followed by a Quentin Terry walk.

Hall soon sent a Sportscenter highlight soaring into center field.

Although Holdrege caught the fly ball, Raile moved home for MNB’s first run. Yet the next batter popped out and Holdrege pitcher Bo Jensen allowed just the one score.

Gabe Roberts recorded several strikeouts during his four innings on the mound for MNB.

Those were the main big moments to begin a five-game home stretch featuring Melons tonight, Kearney Saturday and Broken Bow Sunday.
