Ground broken for major housing development
McCOOK Neb. - Construction is planned to begin as early as next week on homes near West 7th and S Streets in McCook.
“We’re excited to partner with Arrowhead Construction. They will be building five ‘spec’ homes,” said Amanda Engell, Director of Housing Development for the McCook Economic Development Corp.
Community members listened as Charlie McPherson, Director of the MEDC, began the presentation at the Ribbon Cutting for the North Pointe Development.
“This began before Amanda, and I even came on board; it’s been a long time coming,” McPherson said, adding, “ I would like to personally thank all of our board members for their perseverance and relentless effort to make McCook an even better place to call home.”
Engell, who has lived in McCook her whole life recalled, “I can’t remember a time in my lifetime, that I have seen a new street built for housing.”
McPherson and Engell expressed their excitement and pride in being part of a project that aims to bring new housing development to McCook. They highlighted the significance of this endeavor for the community’s growth and future residents. The project includes building new streets and offering buildable lots and ready-to-move-in homes.
Engell provided details about the buildable lots, which are 100 feet by 100 feet and will be listed for sale for $20,000.
To help in the building process and make it more affordable and attainable, the MEDC is offering an incentive. If the purchaser of a lot builds and completes the build within 12 months, the MEDC will reimburse 50% of that lot’s costs.
If the build is complete within 18 months, the reimbursement will be 25%.
“I am so excited to see this project come forward,” City Manager Nate Schneider said, adding that he is very proud of the collaboration between the MEDC, the City of McCook and the community partners that have come together to make this happen.
Engell closed by saying, “We’re very excited to see this project come to life, and we hope that we have many future projects for housing in the community.”
The MEDC will be updating its website to provide more information about the development of North Pointe.
