Program greenlit, students recognized
McCOOK, Neb. — Mid-Plains Community College governors approved a new program and major software expenditure at their meeting Wednesday evening in McCook.
The board greenlit the Medical Laboratory Technician program review as presented, endorsing the forwarding of the report to the Coordinating Commission for Post Secondary Education, and approved a five-year contract for Jenzabar Campus Marketplace software, with the Board approving it at a cost of $248,653.41.
Routine business included approval of $2.9 million in bills for March.
Members of McCook Community College’s Phi Beta Lambda chapter, Miriam Voehl and Harmonie Rodgers, were introduced to the Board. Although member Ethan Brousseau was unable to attend, all three were commended for their outstanding performance at the recent FBLA Collegiate State Leadership Conference in Kearney. Brousseau's inclusion in Who’s Who in Nebraska FBLA-Collegiate was noted, along with the MCC chapter receiving the Gold Excellence award.
The MCC women’s basketball team received recognition for their achievements. Despite finishing the 2023-24 season with a 17-15 overall record, the team earned a share of the Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference championship. Gemma Gruettner-Bacoul and Audra Vine were both selected to the Region IX’s All-South Team, with Gruettner-Bacoul also earning All-Defensive-Team honors and a place on the All-Tournament Team. Additionally, Gruettner-Bacoul, Vine, and Suzan Sisman were named to the NCCAC All-Conference Team. Gruettner Bacoul's inclusion in the Omaha World-Herald’s All-Midlands Junior College First Team and Vine's Honorable Mention were highlighted.
The meeting concluded with no further business, and the Board adjourned at 8:19 p.m. The next Board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on May 22 in Valentine.
