Council agenda includes litigation, sports complex strategy
McCOOK, Neb. — Executive sessions on property litigation and strategy for land purchase for a sports complex are the last items on the agenda for Monday’s McCook City Council meeting.
It begins at 5:30 p.m. in the municipal building, 505 West C.
Final approval of water and sewer rate hikes are also on the agenda.
An ordinance to regulate “Games of Skill” was pulled from the agenda after the Legislature passed LB 685, which will give the regulation and taxing authority to the state.
Council action is expected following a strategy session on potential litigation of property owned by Cindy and Ron Sabin located at 1111 East “H” Street, and a strategy session is listed regarding real estate purchase for a sports complex.
There will be a public hearing regarding a special exception to locate a Bed and Breakfast/Vacation Rental in a Medium-Density Residential District (RM). The property is located at #1 Club House Drive. Following the public hearing, the Council will vote on whether or not to approve that special exception.
An additional public hearing will be held regarding the Redevelopment Plan for the R Perry Redevelopment Project and its conformity with the general plan for the city’s development, which is expected to be approved.
The Council is expected to approve proclamations designating April 26, 2024, as “Arbor Day” and designating the week of April 21-27, 2024, as “Public Transit Week” in the City of McCook to be signed by Mayor Linda Taylor.
Included in the consent agenda is approving an application from Great Plains Communications to occupy the city right-of-way to install underground fiber optic conduit, cable, and new ground-level vaults at the North Pointe subdivision; an application from Pinpoint Communications Inc. of Cambridge to occupy city right-of-way to install underground conduit, vaults, and pedestals for fiber optic cable at the North Pointe subdivision; an application from Nebraska Public Power District to occupy the city right-of-way and install underground electrical cables and conduits in the North Pointe subdivision; an application from Century Link to occupy the city right-of-way to install an underground fiber optic cable and two ground-level vaults for service at 201 West 4th Street.
Also to be considered is the adoption of Resolution No. 2024-08 granting the McCook Housing Agency a payment waiver instead of taxes.
In regular Sessions, the City Council will consider the final approval Ordinances Nos. 2024-3076 and Nos. 2024-3077 to increase Water Department and Sewer Department Rates and Fees.
The City Council will decide whether or not to authorize City Staff to file a Complaint to Foreclose on the special assessment on the Original Town Addition, Block 10, Lot 4, or 406 E 1st.
