College board honors team, OK's Benkelman project
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — Sports kudos and a remodeling project were among the items on the agenda when the Mid-Plains Community College Board of Governors convened for a regular session on Wednesday at the North Platte Community College north campus.
One highlight of the meeting was the introduction of the NPCC Knights Women’s Basketball Team to the Board. The Knights received commendation for their outstanding performance in the 2023-24 season, where they secured an impressive 18-12 record. Notably, the team achieved their third Region IX title in four seasons, and Head Coach Jeff Thurman celebrated his 100th career win this season. Their journey to the North Central A District Championship in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was also acknowledged.
Financial matters were also addressed during the session. The Board approved bills totaling $2,011,196 for the month of February.
Additionally, a significant decision was made to allocate $50,000 towards the renovation of the Dundy County Hospital Foundation building. This space will be utilized by MPCC for classrooms equipped with distance learning capabilities, enhancing educational opportunities for students.
Later in the meeting, the Board entered a closed session at 7:27 p.m. to deliberate on topics including real estate, personnel review, and litigation. Upon reconvening in open session at 7:35 p.m., no further actions were taken.
