Tigers topple Trojans again, but both advance to district finals

BENKELMAN, Neb. — Dundy County-Stratton’s 54-32 subdistrict finals win over Cambridge Thursday only meant both teams will advance to Class D-1 district finals.

The Trojans (15-10 record) are D-1’s No. 14 seed and will play No. 3 Ansley-Litchfield on Saturday to determine one state tournament spot.

Opening tip is set for 5 p.m. in Ansley.

The champion DC-S Tigers (21-5) — who own three wins over Cambridge this season — are seeded No. 7 among Class D-1 teams.

They’ll wait until Tuuesday then play at Southern Valley High against No. 10 Sutton in their D1-7 district final.

DC-S dominated again on Thursday, taking a 13-4 lead through one quarter over Cambridge. All three DC-S victories have been by at least 22 points.

Sophomore Lane Bybee scored 20 points as he made nine of his 15 field goals.

Coach Kris Freeland’s Tigers shot 51 percent overall from two-point range.

Seniors Jackson Kerchal (12) and Brodie Rogers (10) for another 22 points.

Senior Lane Brown (six points) with sophomores Dante Horner and Auugust Shaw tallying two apiece
