Victims identified in Bloomfield double homicide
BLOOMFIELD, Neb. — The Nebraska State Patrol has released the names of two individuals killed in a shooting incident in Bloomfield on Tuesday. The victims have been identified as 77-year-old Curtis Strom and 49-year-old William Reffett, both residents of Bloomfield.
Authorities were alerted to the incident at around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, following a 911 call reporting a shooting at Curt’s Lanes and Dining, located at 112 W. Grant Street. Upon arrival, officers from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Bloomfield Police Department discovered Strom and Reffett deceased, both having suffered apparent gunshot wounds. The Bloomfield Police Department subsequently enlisted the aid of the Nebraska State Patrol to further investigate the double homicide.
The investigation has led to the arrest of two individuals. Alias Reed, 25, is facing charges of first-degree murder and robbery in connection with the deaths of Strom and Reffett. Kaylyne Sweazy, 27, Reed's girlfriend, has been charged with tampering with evidence. Reed is currently being held in Knox County Jail, while Sweazy has been lodged in Antelope County Jail.
Initial findings suggest that Reed confronted Reffett with a shotgun following a dispute at the bowling alley, resulting in Reffett being fatally shot. Strom, who was not involved in the initial altercation, was also shot by Reed. Reed fled the scene shortly after the incident but was apprehended a short time later as a person of interest. Further investigations solidified his role in the crime, leading to his arrest.
A critical piece of evidence, the firearm believed to have been used in the murders, was later found in a ditch several miles west of Bloomfield. It is theorized that Reed and Sweazy worked together to dispose of the weapon. Additionally, cash believed to have been stolen from the bowling alley was recovered during the investigation.
The Nebraska State Patrol, assisted by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Bloomfield Police Department, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
