Second try a charm for Garrett House ribbon cutting
McCOOK, Neb. — Rotarians and community members gathered at the Garrett House, a historic property owned by the C.K. Swanson family, for an open house/ribbon-cutting re-do. Located at 1001 Norris Ave., this short-term rental property is a popular choice for various occasions such as reunions, showers, family gatherings, community events, and parties.
The weather on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024, proved to be ideal for the McCook Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting and open house. It was a much-anticipated event, as the original ribbon cutting in September 2023 was disrupted by storms and tornado sirens.
Melanie Goodenberger, the owner of the property, saw this as an opportunity to involve the McCook Rotary Club. Community members were invited to tour the home and learn more about the Rotary Club.
With a rich history, the Garrett House has seen various owners and served different purposes over the years, including being a banker’s residence, a boarding house, a funeral home, and a photography studio. In 2014, McCook resident Mary Poore, the builder’s granddaughter, took ownership of the property. However, in 2022, it was then purchased by C.K. Swanson, Inc.
Featuring seven bedrooms and 3¾ bathrooms, the Garrett House can comfortably accommodate more than 16 guests. The sleeping arrangements include one king bed, two queen beds, six twin beds, and three futons. Interested individuals can rent this charming property through Airbnb.com or contact Goodenberger at Golden Plains Realty, located at 907 West B Street in McCook.
