Wolves dominate both games, DC-S Tigers triumph

MAYWOOD, Neb. — Maywood-Hayes Center’s 23-3 basketball teams were so scary close to matching each other Tuesday night:

May-Hay girls (12-1 record) 60, Maxwell 35 ;

May-Hay boys (11-2) 60, Maxwell 34.

Sophomore Blayklee Farr’s 19 points fueled the girls on this snowy evening as she blazed from beyond the arc at a 75% success rate (three for four).

Junior Kesli Cox connected for 12 points and sophomore Karissa Stengel tossed in 10.

The Wolves only led through 13-9 through one quarter, but doubled Maxwell (5-3) at 26-13 by intermission.

Junior Reagan Stengel slipped seven points through the nets, freshman Caylie Softley five and junior Kassidy Hatifield four points.

It was a good warm-up for the Wolves’ Friday night game at 10-2 Sandhills-Thedford.

The May-Hay boys took charge of Tuesday’s nightcap with a 22-6 second period.

Junior Jaxson Anders sizzled for 16 points, senior Jeremiah Ingison 14 and senior Hadyn Farr 12. Ingison continues averaging better than 21 points per game this season.

Junior Kody Schwenk netted another nine points all on long-range threes, though Anders buried four bombs from beyond the arc.

Meanwhile, the Dundy County-Stratton boys were busy in Benkelman scoring a 61-48 victory over Hitchcock County.

Sophomore Lane Bybee launched a 23-point, seven-rebound, four-steal and three-blocked shot performance.

Senior Jackson Kerchal was his typical strong inside presence with 20 points and eight rebounds. He blocked three Falcon shots while also delivering four assists.

“Hitchcock played very well and shot the ball well,” DC-S coach Kris Freeland remarked.

Senior Lane Brown added four assists while swiping three steals.

The DC-S girls continued their improved season, now 4-8 following a 51-39 win over HHS.

In Loomis, the Arapahoe boys (7-6) fell 69-52 even though junior Trenton Roskop and sophomore Kade Fischer scored 21 points apiece.

The Arapahoe girls (6-7) fell 47-31 though freshman Clara Hilker snagged 12 rebounds and Cadence Carpenter scored nine points.
