Bluejays from Kansas swoop into Cambridge for two wins
CAMBRIDGE, Neb. — The Norton Bluejays showed why their teams are a combined 9-3 with Tuesday’s clean sweep of host Cambridge.
Both Cambridge teams are now 7-4, but 0-2 since knocking off Maywood-Hayes Center twice Friday night.
Norton’s girls held the Trojans to one first-quarter free throw, then turned that 6-1 early lead into a 37-23 victory.
Cambridge made just nine field goals even though senior Brylynn Springer scored nine points and captured a game-high 10 rebounds.
Senior Bailee Ahlemeyer tallied seven points and sophomore Mallory Springer six on two three-pointers.
Yet the 4-2 Bluejays countered with junior Hallie Brooks’ 13 points and senior Jenessa Ruder netting 10.
Norton’s four wins include a 44-30 conquest of McCook at the Goodland, Kan., Topside Tournament Dec. 8.
The Norton boys (5-1) scored a 40-32 win over Cambridge Tuesday.
Senior Carson Trompke tallied 13 points for these Trojans, but again they fell behind 12-7 through one quarter. Sophomores Krayton Ruggles (nine) and Hodge Raburn (seven) teamed for 16 points while senior Brohdey Wood totaled 14 rebounds.
