CAMBRIDGE, Neb. — The Norton Bluejays showed why their teams are a combined 9-3 with Tuesday’s clean sweep of host Cambridge.

Both Cambridge teams are now 7-4, but 0-2 since knocking off Maywood-Hayes Center twice Friday night.

Norton’s girls held the Trojans to one first-quarter free throw, then turned that 6-1 early lead into a 37-23 victory.

Senior Bailee Ahlemeyer tallied seven points and sophomore Mallory Springer six on two three-pointers.

Yet the 4-2 Bluejays countered with junior Hallie Brooks’ 13 points and senior Jenessa Ruder netting 10.

Norton’s four wins include a 44-30 conquest of McCook at the Goodland, Kan., Topside Tournament Dec. 8.

The Norton boys (5-1) scored a 40-32 win over Cambridge Tuesday.

Senior Carson Trompke tallied 13 points for these Trojans, but again they fell behind 12-7 through one quarter. Sophomores Krayton Ruggles (nine) and Hodge Raburn (seven) teamed for 16 points while senior Brohdey Wood totaled 14 rebounds.
