Trojans stop May-Hay from 10-0, but run into Tiger trip at Paxton
CAMBRIDGE, Neb. — Cambridge stopped Maywood-Hayes Center’s girls from going 10-0 into the new year with a 36-31 victory Friday evening.
Senior Brylynn Springer scored 15 points as she made six of 10 shots while junior Erin Johnson tallied 12 for a 1-2 inside scoring punch.
Springer did step outside to hit her only three-point attempt.
Sophomore Mallory Springer mixed five pipoints with two each from senior Jalen Kent and freshman Elizabeth Kubik.
The Springer sisters both secured eight rebounds to lead a huge 36-17 edge over May-Hay (9-1 record). Johnson and sophomore Aspen Webb each cleaned the glass of six caroms each.
Freshman Caylie Softley’s 11 points led the Wolves though senior Ellie Broz hit four of five shots for eight points.
Sophomore Karissa Stengel added six points.
The Wolves struggled through 24 percent shooting compared to Cambridge’s 41.
Junior Reagan Stengel’s five rebounds led the May-Hay effort.
Cambridge improved to 7-2 but lost a 36-26 constest at Paxton Saturday. Senior Jacelyn Jorgensen’s 15 points powered the Tigers who outscored Cambridge 15-7 in the final quarter.
In boys’ action, senior Carson Trompke lit up the home gym for 25 points during a well-earned 58-55 win over Maywood-Hayes Center.
Sophomore Krayton Ruggles dropped in 13 huge points. He hit two three-point shots to go with Trompke’s five from beyond the arc.
Senior Jeremiah Ingison’s game-high 27 points powered the 8-2 Wolves, whose only other loss was two points to Dundy County-Stratton in the Cattle Trail tourney finals.
Ingison totaled 12 rebounds to edge Trojan Brohdey Wood’s 11.
Senior Haydn Farr finished with another 18 points.
Yet the Cambridge boys also lost at Paxton, 60-55, Saturday evening.
Sophomore Brady Ahlemeyer’s 17 points paced the 7-3 Trojans. Wood and Trompke each tossed in 12.
