Trojans and Eagles win, other area girls basketball

PLEASANTON, Neb. — Trailing by three at halftime, the Cambridge girls only allowed four third-quarter points while scoring 18 in a 61-45 win over Anselmo-Merna Monday.

The Trojans (5-2) advanced into tonight’s Pleasanton Holiday Tournament championship game just like Cambridge’s boys.

They silenced the Coyotes even though A-M (4-4) played a 13-13 first quarter which then became 29-26 entering halftime.

Yet Cambridge took a 44-33 into the final quarter before closing this victory. No other details were obtained.

Southern Valley 52,

OXFORD, Neb. — Other Monday night hoops featured Southern Valley taking a 20-4 lead en route to those girls’ sixth win through seven games so far this season.

Sophomore Raeagan Hagan’s six points paced the 2-5 Falco ns.

Senior Byanka Tyan added three points with two each from senior Daelyn Mues, sophomroes Riley Hagan, Asia Homma and Madysen Carlson.

Hitchcock Co. 45

TRENTON, Neb. — Senior Abby Micek scored 16 points on six-of-10 shooting for the 4-2 Rawlins County (Kan.) Buffaloes Friday.

Sophomore Kayte Shively chipped in another 14 points to hold off a determined Hitchcock County girls team.

Hagan scored 15 points on six of 11 field goals to lead the Falcons and Tyan tossed in 13 points.

Senior Katie Jarecke and Homma added seven points apiece.

Micek also totaled 12 rebounds for a double-double.

Med Valley 58,

CURTIS, Neb. — Junior Remmi Stout’s 20 points on seven of 11 shooting and 11 rebounds helped the Raiders even their record at 4-4 Monday evening.

Senior Stella Heapy sent 16 points through the nets with senior Sienna Houghtelling dropping in 14.

Med Valley 40,

STAPLETON, Neb. — Medicine Valley overcame an opening 13-2 deficit as Heapy totaled 20 points and Stout scored 15.

Longhorns split

Chase County’s girls trounced Sutherland, 56-26, Thursday night but dropped a 32-25 decision against Wray, Colo., on Friday.

The Longhorns are now 2-4 with Bridgeport visiting Thursday .

GRANT, Neb. — Senior Kailee Potts’ 19 points topped the Perkins County girls win on Friday which dropped Dundy County-Stratton to 1-5 this season.

Decatur Comm. 45,

Hill City 10

This was a highlight win for the 4-2 Decatur Community Red Devils as senior Kamryn Oien outscored that entire Ringneck team, 14-10.

Senior Aidyn Witt added nine points.

LOOMIS, Neb. — Vanessa Aguayo’s 17 points highlighted four double-figure scorers for the Eagles.
