School performance, legislation on board agenda
McCOOK, Neb. - McCook Public Schools is classified as a “Great” school district and its students continue to surpass both the state of Nebraska and schools within its peer group. That is the message that Superintendent Grant Norgaard will deliver to the McCook School Board of Education at their regular meeting Monday, Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. in the Junior High Conference Room.
“In fact, McCook outperformed the state on every single assessment at every grade level. While we have come close in the past, this marks the first instance of such an achievement since the state began assessing students,” Norgaard wrote in his comments. More information about the state assessments can be found on the state’s website.
Norgaard will also report to the board about a recent meeting district officials had with Nebraska State Senator Dave Murman concerning potential school legislation. Norgaard said the legislation could impact the school system, students, teachers, and communities. He said the conversation with Sen. Murman was very positive.
Norgaard will also report on an upcoming upgrade to the district’s website and changes to the teacher application process for the district.
Other business includes approving the audited financial report from KSO CPAs; further discussion and action on the agreement with Sampson Construction for the proposed new Junior High School addition and Senior High renovation project; and approval of the purchase of a new bus.
The board will also accept the resignation of Norabel Chessmore, Senior High Journalism instructor. Ms. Chessmore is relocating due to her husband’s work.
An executive session will be held to discuss negotiations with the McCook Education Association and to discuss the superintendent’s evaluation. The public and the media are excluded from executive sessions.
