New bus, construction manager on school board agenda

Friday, November 10, 2023

McCOOK, Neb. – The McCook School Board of Education will be asked to accept a bid of $131,850 for a 2025 Thomas school bus equipped with a lift at Monday’s meeting, which begins at 6:00 p.m. in the Junior High Conference room.

The board will also discuss, consider, and “take all necessary action” concerning the recommendation of the Selection Committee for the position of Construction Manager at Risk for the proposed new Junior High School addition and Senior High renovation project. The “manager at risk” system brings architects and financial planners into the process sooner to help create a design more likely to meet the school’s needs at an affordable cost, avoiding expensive “change orders” in the process.

In addition, the board will review and approve the elementary and secondary school’s bullying prevention policies.

The board will also hear from FFA members on their trip to the national convention in Indianapolis and will hear a computer science presentation from Tina Williams.

Superintendent Grant Norgaard will update the board on the many way Veterans were recognized at the various school buildings. He will also update the board on recruiting visits and state assessment data. State assessment data is under embargo, but Norgaard said McCook Public School’s administrative team met with Nebraska Department of Education administrators to discuss the district’s results and clarify why the district received the classifications they received.

Norgaard and Business Manager Jeff Gross will also discuss the facilities issue, where the main water line coming into the school cracked and leaked a considerable amount of water.

The agenda also includes an executive session to discuss negotiations. An executive session is closed to the public.
