College board gives kudos to MCC sports
McCOOK, Neb. — Three McCook Community College teams received accolades for outstanding seasons at Wednesday’s Mid Plains Community College board meeting in McCook.
MCC Baseball Head Coach Jon Olson team’s 33 wins during the 2022-23 season was the most in the last decade.
MCC Volleyball celebrated Coach Hayley Kobza’s 150th win, and three of her players ranked in the Top 10 nationally.
MCC Golf Coach Tyler Loop’s team won every tournament except nationals last spring and finished 16th in the nation, the team’s best-ever performance.
Present at the meeting were MPCC President Ryan Purdy and board members: Kirk Crawley, Cynthia Duncan, Ted Klug Jr., Ernie Mehl, Kent Miller, Kim Korgan, Tyler Pribbeno, and Tricia Schaffer. Jo Etta Brown and Matthew Broz were absent and excused. The meeting was also attended by NPCC student trustee Reece Halley and MCC student trustee Graci Nelson.
The meeting covered several significant items, including:
• NPCC student trustee Reece Halley and MCC student trustee Graci Nelson provided reports on student activities in North Platte and McCook.
• Board member Kent Miller reminded everyone about the Nebraska Community College Association Annual Meeting scheduled for November 5-6 in North Platte.
• Board members approved $2,744,874.40 in bills for September in the amount of. They also gave their approval for the 2023-26 MPCC Strategic Plan, as well as the second and final reading of Board Policy Sections 4000, 5000, 6000, and 7000.
• Cabinet members presented reports, including MPCC President Ryan Purdy, Vice President of Academic Affairs and NPCC Dr. Jody Tomanek, Vice President of Administrative Services Mike Steele, Vice President of Student Affairs and MCC Kelly Rippen, Director of Human Resources Rebecca Wrage, and Director of Institutional Advancement Jake Rissler.
The meeting concluded with an adjournment at 7:18 p.m. The next Board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 in North Platte.
