McCook golfer near middle of 'B' state pack

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. — McCook sophomore Lainey Peters was in a three-way tie for 33rd place among 69 Class B state golfers finishing first-round play Monday.

Peters was set to tee off at 10 a.m. today for the final round at Scotts Bluff Country Club.

McCook’s entire varsity lineup will complete 18 holes after making a run to state with their district top three performance last week.

Peters shot 102 on Monday which matched Omaha Duchesne freshman Ellie Jung and Elkhorn North senior Shea Meredith.

They start today exactly 15 strokes from the final Class B medalist in 15th place.

Bison teammate Kapri Loop broke into the ‘B’ top 50 with her 110 first round on Monday.

Sophomore Paige Broomfield tallied 126 and junior Haley Beideck 127 and junior Natalie Ruggles 128 to finish McCook’s 465 team total.

Junior Natalie Ruggles also qualified and fired a round of 128.

Omaha Duchesne’s 337 leads the team title race ahead of Elkhorn North (351) and Scottsbluff (353).

Beatrice senior Kiera Paquette shot 76 for a one-stroke lead over three individuals at 77 through the first round.
